Kayla Kane of Utica High was one of five players who signed national softball letters of intent with Detroit Mercy, Lady Titans coach Liz Young said. Kane can play anywhere in the field and can add depth behind the plate.  She had a .350 batting average in 2012 with Utica and was named all-conference and all-district.  “She has a hunger to play the game well,” said Young.  “She has a selfless, team-first attitude and she will be a force anywhere we put her.

"The 2013 class will bring a work ethic, mentality and passion that will fit right in with what we believe,” said Young.  “They will challenge the upperclassmen and will help fortify our defense. With a great attitude and our strong upperclassmen leadership, this class is bound to leave a legacy."

Taylor Moceri of Stevenson will continue her softball career at Saginaw Valley State, Stevenson athletic director Chad Hottle said.

ALYSSA HUNTLEY

Alyssa Huntley of Stevenson has signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career at Eastern Michigan, Titans coach Tony Misuraca said. In 2012, Huntley had a 23-6 record and a 0.79 ERA and was named by coaches the Macomb County Player of the Year. She had 241 strikeouts in 203 innings. She batted .486 with five home runs and 50 RBI.  Huntley was named to the Macomb Area Conference Red Division all-star team, and was named MVP of the division.

Taylor Wojciechowicz of Dakota has signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career at Heidelberg University, an NCAA school in Tiffin, Ohio. Wojciechowicz is pictured with Dakota coach Rick Fontaine.

Joining Romeo High senior Melissa Staelgraeve when she signed were (from left) parents Ken and Linda Staelgraeve, as well as Macomb Community College softball coach Joe Cavataio.

Romeo High’s Melissa Staelgraeve has signed to play softball at Macomb Community College.

As a junior, Staelgraeve hit .446 with 37 hits and 23 RBI for coach Dave McIntyre’s Romeo Bulldogs. She received all county, all district and all conference honors.

A member of the National Honor Society, Staelgraeve plans on majoring in nursing.

Romeo High’s Victoria Shaddock has signed to play softball at Concordia University in Ann Arbor.

“Victoria has an outstanding bat and is expected to come into CUAA and put it to use,” said Concordia coach Greg Brierley. “Victoria is an excellent infielder who can play second base, third base or shortstop. She will be looked at to be an example on and off the field.”

Concordia University is an NAIA school. The Lady Cardinals compete in the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference.

Jessica Barjaktarovich of Richmond signed a letter of intent to play softball at Concordia University.  She signed with the Ann Arbor school on Feb. 3.

Bryana Opalewski, a pitcher and infielder from Fraser, has signed a softball letter of intent with Macomb Community College. Opalewski, a three-year starter whose career batting average is over .400, plays second base and shortstop and pitches for Fraser. She has been named to league, county, district and region all-star teams. Opalewski plans to major in physical therapy at MCC, Fraser coach Matt Fishburn said.
