Three county soccer players commit to UDM

DETROIT – University of Detroit Mercy men's soccer coach Nicholas Deren has recruited a number of Macomb County players to help the Titans defend their 2012 Horizon League regular season championship. They are Robbie Beckwell of Ford, Eisenhower’s Ryan Goike and Spencer Steinwascher of Stevenson.
Beckwell earned two varsity letters as the goalie for the Falcons. Among his biggest thrills was playing with the Michigan Wolves when the team advanced to the USSDA finals week where he came off the bench to make two saves in a penalty shootout.
Goike, a 6-0 midfielder, earned three varsity letters. He scored 30 goals and six assists his senior year, earning the MAC Red MVP. He was named to the 2012 MHSSCA Dream Team and All-State first team in 2012. He was also honored as All-District and All-Conference his senior year.
Steinwascher is a four-year letter winner at Stevenson. He will join his brother, Nathan Steinwascher, on the UDM roster. Spencer was named team captain and team MVP his senior year and was an All-District, All-Conference and All-State Honorable Mention honoree.
The Detroit Titans captured the 2012 regular reason Horizon League Championship with a record of 10-8-0 and a 6-1-0 mark in the conference.
